Queen's Domain Armor: Defence, Weight and the Charm Slot

How armor works in Queen's Domain: defence vs mobility, shields, life charms, status resistance and the upgrade priorities that keep a build alive.

Last Updated: 2026-10-30

Armor is the least documented system in Queen's Domain at launch. The game confirms armour, shields and trinkets in its store description, the HUD shows a diamond-shaped life/charm slot, and the Noble Sentinel proves that a shield changes a fight. It does not publish a set list or a defence formula.

This page covers what is confirmed, how to judge a piece in the field, and the defence priorities that matter more than a number.

What is confirmed

  • Armour exists and is equipped; the store description lists it alongside weapons and trinkets.
  • Shields exist as enemy equipment, and at least some player-side guard or block option is implied by the combat system. A full player shield system is not confirmed.
  • A life charm appears in the HUD's diamond slot, and the demo's hotfix notes reference life points and the life charm.
  • Status icons (skull, leaf/shield, claw) appear under the health bar, which implies resistance stats or cleansing items.
  • Weight and mobility are not published. Treat encumbrance as a design question, not a confirmed mechanic.

What is not confirmed: a complete armour set list, exact defence values, poise, or a transmogrification system. Any day-one "best armour" ranking is guesswork.

The three defence questions

1. Does it survive the trade you actually make?

Armour's job is not to make you immortal; it is to make one mistake survivable. If your build commits to a slow weapon, heavy armour is the thing that lets you finish the swing. If your build is a thrower, heavy armour is weight you do not need.

Judge a piece by the fight you just lost: if you died with the boss at 20% and your health bar vanished in two hits, defence is the upgrade. If you died with no stamina, defence will not save you.

2. Does it resist the region's status?

The HUD's status icons are the game's tell. A region that applies poison, bleed or a curse wants a resistance piece, not a raw defence piece. Carry one resistance charm for the region you are entering and swap it at the monument.

Do not stack two resistances for the same status. The second piece is usually wasted.

3. Does it keep you mobile enough to reposition?

There is no dodge roll, so movement is your defence. Armour that slows you below the boss's walk speed is a net loss, even if the number is higher. Test a new set on a regular enemy before a boss: if you cannot circle the enemy's swing, the armour is too heavy for that fight.

The life charm is the default

The diamond slot's life charm is the safest general-purpose choice. Swap it for a resistance charm only when the region's status is the thing killing you.

Armour weights and what they are for

Weight Best for Cost Tell
Light Throwers, position players Less room for mistakes You can circle every regular enemy
Medium Balanced builds, first run Middle You survive one boss hit, still move
Heavy Impact bruisers, learning a boss Slow repositioning You finish the slow swing, then eat the next

These are categories, not sets. The game's actual pieces sit on a spectrum, and the right weight changes by region.

Shields and guard

The Noble Sentinel is the game's proof that shields matter: its guard changes which parts of the boss are hittable and turns a front trade into a bounce. Whether the player gets the same tool is less clear.

If a player-side shield exists, the rules are likely the same as the enemy's:

  • Guard is directional. Attacks from the side or behind are not blocked.
  • Guard is a commitment. A shield that is up is not a shield that is attacking.
  • Impact breaks guards. The damage type that staggers bone is the one that opens a shield.

Test it on a regular enemy before you rely on it in a boss fight. If the game does not offer a player shield, the defensive answer is the same as the rest of the game: position, not a button.

Charms and trinkets

The charm slot is the build's flex. The confirmed example is the life charm, which raises life points or adds a life resource. The general rule:

  • Life charm: default; good when you are learning a fight.
  • Resistance charm: swap in for a status-heavy region.
  • Damage charm: only when you already survive the fight's basic hits.
  • Utility charm: movement, stamina or item-related; the first thing to test when a boss has a long runback.

Do not collect charms as trophies. One slot means one problem solved at a time.

Upgrade priorities

Armour upgrades compete with weapon upgrades for resources. The safe order:

  1. Main weapon to a comfortable breakpoint.
  2. One armour piece that covers the region's damage type.
  3. A resistance charm for the next region.
  4. Everything else.

Do not upgrade a full set evenly. A +2 chest that turns a two-shot into a three-shot is worth more than four +1 pieces that do not change the math.

What to wear for the three confirmed bosses

  • Black Skeletal Butcher: medium or heavy; the corridor punishes a light build that cannot survive one axe clip. Impact resistance if the game exposes it.
  • Noble Sentinel: medium; you need to circle the shield, and heavy armour makes the circle too slow. Bring an impact weapon, not heavier armour.
  • The Necronomicon: light; the fight is projectile lanes, and mobility is the defence. Resistance to whatever the red void applies, if a charm exists.

The boss guide covers the arenas, and the build guide matches armour weight to loadout.

FAQ

How many armour sets are there? Not published. The game confirms armour and trinkets, not a set count.

Does armour have weight penalties? Not confirmed as a formal system. Movement speed is the practical test.

Can I upgrade armour? Armour upgrades are implied by the game's upgrade loop, but the exact currency is not published.

Is the life charm the best charm? It is the safest default. Resistance charms are better once you know the region's status.
